Canadian Tire sent us a new microwave to review as part of the "Tested for life in Canada" program. We've had the opportunity to try it out for a few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised.
MasterChef is not a brand that you immediately think of when thinking Microwave, but this brand synonymous with Canadian Tire tends to hold up to quality. We've had a MasterChef BBQ for over 10 years now, and it's still going strong, even as we leave exposed to the Canadian elements every winter.
The Microwave is simple, with not a lot of features. But in most cases, that's all you need. As long as Canadian Tire prices this appliance properly, it'll sell like hot cakes.
Some features we loved are
- The one touch cook buttons. Special buttons design for baked potatoes, re-heating, frozen dinners, beverages, pizza and popcorn.
- Express cook buttons. Hit #2 to cook for 2 minutes, it's that simple. One touch cooking at it's finest.
- Adding 30 seconds. That food doesn't really looked cooked yet, just hit +30 sec to cook for an extra 30 seconds.
Some things we wish the this microwave had however are
- Button to open the microwave. Having to pull on the handle can be a pain, a simple button to release the door goes a long way
- A better plug. The plug is not shaped to point down, which eats up counterspace. Here's the plug from our Panasonic microwave compare to the MasterChef one.
